Polishing your trefoil

Hi Guides

This is just a post to guide those who are still unsure about how to polish your trefoil. :-)

Step 1:
Get a cloth (in my case I used a disposable one) and gently squirt some toothpaste on it.

Step 2:
Hold your trefoil upside down and start rubbing the front gently on the cloth with toothpaste.

Step 3:
After a few times, you'll notice that the cloth will start to turn dark blue/black. Don't stop. Keep rubbing it for around 1 minute.

Step 4:
When the toothpaste has completely turned blackish in color, get your toothpaste and squirt some out again, this time on one side of the black portion.

Step 5:
Keep repeating step 4 for at least 5 times and then wash your trefoil under running tap water for 30secs and then dry it with dry tissue. You'll then get a bright and shiny trefoil! :D (Trust me- it's a lot brighter in real life)

Because the trefoil is our most important badge, I hope all of you will take good care of it throughout your guiding years. Polish it, and keep it safely when not required. I hoped this little tutorial aided you in your polishing! :-)

- Report outside Guides' Den at 2.40pm in Half U (P.E + Skirt, like today)
- Do not forget your hat, sunblock (if you have it), 1.5L bottle, gloves.

Briefing for 19/7 NDP Rehearsal

Dear Guides

Due to time constraint, I was unable to make my words clear to all of you before dismissal, hence the need for this post.

First off, today's performance was nowhere the standard we are working towards. We do not wish to scold you, trust me. We knows how it feels like (We were once like all of you)!! Hence, every time you see us getting angry or not mincing our words, please keep in mind that it is all for your own good.

Next, I will be placing orders for the boots already (by tonight). Those who have yet to paid your $12.90, please pay after school on Monday outside Guides' Den at 1.40pm! Remember. Here are the names of those who have yet to paid:

Bernice
Verene
Lisa
Jia Ru
Rycelyn
Deborah
Qiao Yuan
Nuraisyah
Wen Xi*
Wan Qin
Felicia
Rathi
Shu Hui
Natalie (*Update* Previously it was Pei Zhen but it was a typo!)
Yun Ting
Renette*
Eliza

*WenXi and Renette, as we have to make the orders by tonight (19/7), take note that I estimated your sizes for you.

Some of you have been asking me about the socks. Yes, we can order the socks along with the boots and gloves, however, you will need to pay the FULL price of the socks on your own. We will collect it soon, so bring enough money on Wednesday.

Another thing is, I need to meet all the sec 1s outside Guides' Den at 1.40pm on Monday to collect your patrol emblems. All Sec Ones are to be present.

For the following NDP rehearsal on Next Wednesday, please take note of the details:

- It is compulsory for ALL to bring a 1.5 liters mineral water bottle for rehearsal. It must be full. Buy if you do not have it. Label your names clearly on it. By 1.5l, I mean:

- Report outside Guides' Den at 3pm in FULL UNIFORMBe punctual and wear your attire properly. Polish your trefoil, whiten your shoes, tuck the laces, tie your braids, try not to wear Anderson socks, bring all articles (whistle and belt and various badges), tie your scarf properly and bring your hats and gloves! I do not wish to see anyone in improper attire.

- Those interested in Cambodia Trip, please tell us by the next session.

- North Division Day is also coming up, 17 August in Yishun Town Sec. Interested participants should inform us as well.

- Practice all the footdrills at home. I've noticed that your hentak (aka. marching on the spot) and your jalan (marching around) is not strong enough yet. Seek help from a senior if you need help. I mean it, absentism from any session does not serve as an excuse.

- Hydrate yourselves and be mentally strong and prepared. This rehearsal is not easy; we have told all of you. Thus, you need to hang in there for it.

- Remember to hand in all your badges and various testworks. Seek help if needed.

Other than that, we also have a Guides noticeboard near the side of the canteen which have information on details for each Guides Session. Please go and read it if you have any doubts about any Guides' session.
Last but not least, make sure to keep yourselves healthy and fit. Do drink a lot of water.

19/7/13 Session

Dear Guides

On this Friday, we will be participating in the NDP rehearsal with the other UGs as well, just like today.

Today was generally okay, but I really really need all of you to put in more effort in your attire as we are representatives of Girl Guides (I cannot emphasize this enough). We need to wear our blue uniform with pride. Please remember to polish your trefoils, by rubbing them on a cloth with a few dabs/squirts of toothpaste for at least 7-8 times. Start dabbing new toothpaste once the 'old' dabs have turned bluish-black. (For best effect, I really recommend this brand)

It works better than Darlie or Colgate (try not to use those as your seniors have reported cases where their gold trefoil turned to white. Guess those whitening effects did work!). Rinse your trefoil under running tap water and wipe dry after you have done polishing it with toothpaste. I am currently using this brand for about 3 years now, and my bottle is still unfinished! It costs less than 4 dollars if I remembered correctly.

Otherwise, you can also polish your trefoil using metal polish. I have also heard lemons work on the metal material of our trefoil as well, hence you may try it. Make sure it's really sparkly gold, since this badge is our most important badge on our uniform!

Guides, also make sure that your shoes are white (especially those Guides that have been pointed out today). Skirts that go WAY OVER your knees may be altered. The best way to know if the skirt is too long/too short is to kneel down with it. If you kneel with the skirt covering your knees but touching the ground, it is okay. If not, please do something about it. If you are still unsure, please look for your seniors.

Please also get yourself familiarized on how to tie your scarf. Instructions can be found on the GGS website.

http://www.girlguides.org.sg/cos/o.x?c=/ggs/pagetree&func=view&rid=5107

Take note of the deadlines for submissions of Proficiency Badges and Testwork and NYAA as well. Ask for extension if you really need more time. Keep in mind that these badges are crucial for our PNA points.

Otherwise, please take note of the following details for Friday's meeting:

Report in P.E shirt + Guide Skirt (with whistle and belt)
Shoes to be white (Whiten if needed) and socks to be visible.
Shoe laces should also be tucked in as well. No loops and loose laces should be dangling out
Bring fully filled water bottles and assemble at 2.45pm at Guides' Den for Attire Check, Attendance Taking and Briefing.

****Eat before CCA starts.****

Since you have more time on Friday, I do not wish to see any Guide in improper attire. Meanwhile, those who are not interested for the Cambodia Trip, do return your forms. Please also remember to text me your shoe size for the boots we are buying, by tomorrow (Thursday)!

I hope all of you had a fruitful session today, and rest well.

Yours In Guiding,
Hui Hui

Campfire Reflection

Dear Guides,

Now that campfire is over, I'm sure many of us would have created many fond memories with our fellow guide sisters. During this period of time, you would have gone through many ups and downs, thus this would be a good time for us to reflect on what we have done or think about what could have been improved.

Please type out your reflection for Polaris 2013, saying:

1) What you enjoyed about the campfire
2) 3 things that was good about campfire
3) 3 things that was bad about campfire
4) 3 things that can be improved about campfire.

I strongly urge all of you to take some time to ponder over these points so our next campfire can be a better one. Although this campfire was not the best, but our efforts have paid off and I believe the next one would be better. Have a great rest, drink up and prepare yourself for the next project A*Guides is about to undertake (NDP). We can all do this together.

Yours In Guiding,
Hui Hui
