Station 1: Kim’s Game
Venue: Eco Lake
Duration: 10 minutes
Station I/Cs: Dorina and Charmayne
Instructions:
- 30 items which may be related to Singapore that have been stuck to a corrugated board will be placed onto the ground.
- Brownies are supposed to be sitting around the boards, and everyone should be able to have a good view of the items on the boards.
- They will be given 1 minute to observe the items.
- After 1 minute is up, a cloth will be used to cover the board and it’s items. Pen and paper will be given to the group of Brownies
- Brownies are then supposed to discuss and write out the list of items they saw on their program booklet. If they don't know the name of the item, they are also encouraged to draw it out.
- 1 point is awarded per correct object answered. No points will be deducted for not naming an object, not stating the amount of each object or stating the wrong amount of each object. They will need to answer 24 objects correctly so as to pass their Observer’s badge.
Station 2: Shade it Off
Venue: Foliage garden
Duration: 8 minutes
Station I/Cs: Bernessa and Yuli
Instructions:
- Firstly, the brownies would have to walk around the area as a group to pick up 4 different types of leaves. (one with jagged edges, one with parallel veins, one shaped like a palm and one with network veins)

- Place the leaf on a piece of A5 paper (the A4 papers would be torn into half) and use colour pencils to shade the leaf to get the outline of it imprinted on the piece of paper. A piece of cardboard would be given to serve as a smooth platform for the brownies to shade the leaf on.
- Afterwards, the brownie would have to go to the game masters and describe the leaf to them ( texture, colour etc. )
- 2 points are awarded per correct description of the leaf. No points are deducted for a wrong description. Points would only be awarded up to three descriptions per leaf. A maximum amount of points given for the whole group is 24
Station 3: Thumb it!
Venue: Shelter to Nut Trees
Duration: 10 minutes
Station I/Cs:Chloe and Charlotte
Instructions:
1. Each Brownie will be given one piece of A5 paper and one set of inkpad and paint to be given to each team.
2. They will be given time to observe the plants and flowers in the garden
3. Brownies will be given 10 minutes to make use of the materials given and create an art piece of the favourite plant/ flower they observed by sticking their thumbs into the paint/ ink pad and pressing them down on the piece of paper.
4. Brownies will then receive some recycled newspaper and magazine to paste on the plant/flowers art piece as leaves.
5. Once completed, Brownies can glue them into their programme booklet.
An example of an art piece of water hyacinth is shown below:
1. Using your green marker, draw a straight line in the middle of your paper- this will be the hyacinths stem
2. Dip your thumb in the paint and stamp your thumb up one side and down the other of the green line, only doing this on the top half
3. Cut two leaves out of recycled magazine and glue them on the bottom of the stem.

Station 4: Capture it
Venue: Fragrant Garden
Station I/Cs:Vivien and Sze Jie
Logistics needed: -
Instructions:
- Brownies will have to observe and take pictures of 5 animals or plants seen at Fragrant Garden
- After observing, the Brownies will have to tell the station I/Cs the names of the animals and show them the pictures taken. (Clause 1) Also, they will be required to write down in their programme booklet 3 features of the animals observed and sketch out 1 of the 5 animals they took pictures of.
- 1 point is awarded for each photo taken and correctly naming each animal. No points are deducted for a wrong answer
Station 5: Spicy Herby
Venue: Shelter next to Herbs and Spices
Duration: 10-15 minutes
Station I/Cs: Grace and Yi Lin
Instructions:
- Brownies will first be given time to smell 5 different herbs and spices samples placed in plastic containers that are wrapped in aluminium foil with the names of the herb labelled.They will be given time to recognise the different herbs and spices by their smell
- They will then be blindfolded and given 20 seconds to smell the each herb and spice.
- Each time 20 seconds is up, the group is to tell the station I/Cs the name of the herb and spices and a local dish which uses them.
- Step 2-3 will be repeated for the rest of the herbs and spices.
- Pictures of the local dishes would be shown to them.
*The dishes shown are usually known as local dishes but they originate from other countries such as India and England*

Bonus station 6: Turn the Clock in Singapore
Venue: Healing Garden
Duration: 10 minutes
Station I/Cs: Lai Shi Qi and Ji Feng
Instructions:
- Brownies will be given slips of paper regarding the history of Botanic gardens upon reaching the station
- They will then have to arrange them in chronological order at this station.
- 1 point is awarded for each paper slip. No points are deducted for wrong answers.
Paper slips:
- Sir Stamford Raffles, the founder of Singapore and a keen naturalist, set up the very first Botanic Gardens in 1822 on Government Hill at Fort Canning. It was to introduce into cultivation economic crops.
- This first Garden closed.
- It was not until 30 years later that the present Singapore Botanic Gardens began in 1859, when the Agri Horticultural Society was granted 32 hectares of land in Tanglin by the colonial government
- The Agri Horticultural Society, however, ran out of funds and the colonial government took over the management of the Gardens.
- The first rubber seedlings came to the gardens from Kew in 1877.
- Another achievement was the pioneering of orchid hybridisation by Professor Eric Holttum, director of the Gardens. His techniques led to Singapore being one of the world's top centres of commercial orchid growing.
- During the Japanese occupation of Singapore, from 1942 to 1945 Hidezo Tanakadate, a professor of geology from Tohoku Imperial University, took over control of the Singapore Botanic Gardens and the Raffles Museum.
- After the war, the Gardens was handed back to the control of the British.
- Eventually the Gardens played an important role during the "greening Singapore" campaign and Garden City campaign during the early independence years.
